Autodesk unveils Internet-Integrated Solutions
Autodesk, Inc. has announced a
suite of solutions optimised for the communications,
utilities, government, and land development industries
that are based on the new AutoCAD 2000i. The
Internet-enhanced solutions include AutoCAD Map 2000i,
AutoCAD Land Development Desktop Release 2i, Autodesk
Civil Design Release 2i, Autodesk Survey Release 2i, and
Autodesk CAD Overlay 2000i. These new solutions use
Web-based features to provide data integration,
collaboration, and e-commerce capabilities. More

Digital database of US
TIGER/Line File, the public version
of the Census Bureau’s digital database of geographic
features for the United States and the US Island Areas
will be available by March 2001. The database is called
TIGERO, which is the source of all Census Bureau
geographic products. The TIGER/LineO files include the
January 1, 2000 governmental unit boundaries, Census
2000 statistical area boundaries, Census 2000 tabulation
block numbers, address range enhancements, feature
updates from Census 2000 enumeration and ZIP Code
Tabulation AreasTm (ZCTAs’ ). Record layouts available

Delphi2 Creative Technologies signs agreement ZGIS
Delphi2
Creative Technologies, Munich, has announced the signing
of an agreement with the University of Salzburg’s Center
for Geographic Information Processing (ZGIS) at the
Department of Geography and Geoinformation for joint
cooperation in the areas of remote sensing and GIS
applications. Delphi2 is developing innovative software
solutions for geospatial analysis and simulation. For

Autodesk plans to expand
Autodesk India Limited has planned to expand its operations by setting up four new divisions. These new divisions include information systems support, assistance centre for the world-wide sales force, a technical support team for customers and channel partners in the Asia-Pacific region and a training support centre to provide curriculum and train teachers for the authorised training centres in the Asia-Pacific region. The expansion would help the company to counter piracy.
ESRI India wins Hazard Mitigation Information System bid
ESRI India has won a hazard mitigation information system (HMIS) bid for the state of Andhra Pradesh. The bid includes ArcInfo licenses with ARC GRID, ARC NETWORK and ArcScan extensions and ArcView Spatial Analyst and ArcView Network Analyst. The computing environment is Microsoft Windows 2000. This is a aprt of a larger Andhra Pradesh hazard mitigation and emergency cyclone recovery project, partially funded by the World Bank. The overall project, estimated at $220 million (U.S.), is for the provision of a hazard management programme, the restoration of damaged public infrastructure and technical assistance for project implementation and management. The HMIS will aid in the overall recovery project goals that are to assist the state government to prepare and implement a hazard management programme in high-risk areas and restore the public infrastructure lost in the 1996 disaster. Another goal is to enhance the early cyclone warning capabilities of India’s government.
Space Application Centre to help develop Indore
The Madhya Pradesh Government has signed an agreement with the Space Application Centre (SAC), Ahmedabad, a unit of the Indian Space Research Organisation(ISRO), to prepare a development plan for the Indore planning area using remote sensing techniques and Geographical Information System (GIS). The Group Director Forestry, Land Use and Photogrammetry Group (SAC), Dr. Ajai signed the agreement on behalf of SAC while the Director, Town and Country Planning, Mr. K.K. Singh, represented the State Government. He Said the Rs. 16.95 lakh project will be completed in nine months. The Indore Development Authority and Indore Municipal Corporation will provide Rs. 5 lakhs each for preparing the development plan. Indore is the fastest growing city in M.P. bearing tremendous pressure of development in the fringe area. Hence, there is an urgent need to prepare a development plan along scientific lines to check haphazard and unplanned growth using remote sensing technique and GIS . Under the Indore project, thematic maps relating to land use, slope, flood, transportation, drainage, and administrative boundary will be prepared. Additional area will also be determined for urbanisation in future.
Technology development centre at Elnet
A technology development centre at a cost of $20 million has been set up by the US-based online fleet management solution provider @Road Inc. It is scouting for a marketing partner to offer its services in India. The Chennai centre, located at Elnet Software City, Taramani, will combine technologies such as Global Positioning System (GPS), wireless communication and Internet into a fully integrated network that will help the customers to locate their fleet movement online. The company has patented the technology combining GPS, wireless communication and Internet under the name LocationSmart.
Java-based Version of ESRI’s ArcExplorer
ESRI has announced that ArcExplorer
3, the all-new Java edition of ESRI’s popular GIS data
viewer, is now available. ArcExplorer is a lightweight
data explorer that can be used with both Windows and
UNIX operating systems. ESRI’s flagship software for GIS
and mapping on the Internet, ArcExplorer 3, has the
added advantage of being able to work with ArcSDE 8.0.2,
the most recent version of ESRI’s Spatial Database
Engine. ArcExplorer 3-Java Edition is free and can be
