    ERDAS IMAGINE 8.4 launched
    ERDAS Imagine 8.4 becomes the first geographic imaging software product compatible for Windows 2000 and has been listed as a Compatible Software Application on Microsoft’s Windows 2000 website. ERDAS Imagine 8.4 with its superior speed and accuracy in geographic imaging processes includes the first commercially available expert systems classification tool for geographic applications.     INSAT-3B launched
    On March 22, ISRO successfully launched India’s first third generation satellite Insat-3B from Kourou in French Guyana. The satellite has 12 extended C-band transponders with a capacity of 36 MHz and three Ku band transponders with a capacity of 77 MHz. Indian VSAT operators would be able to use equipment meant for the Ku-band which is normally used for VSAT operations throughout the world. It will further enhance the capabilities already built up by India for instant communication, broadcasting and weather forecasting.

    Distribution Agreement renewed
    Spot Image, France and Radarsat International Canada have renewed their agreement to distribute synthetic aperture radar (SAR) data from the Canadian Radarsat satellite for a further three years. This new agreement extends the initial zone covered to 25 countries, including new markets in Eastern Europe and Central and Northern Africa.     IKONOS imagery now available in commercial marketplace
    Space Imaging announced the availability of the high-resolution imageries for provincial, state and local government agencies. The first customers to this service provided by Space Imaging for local government planning purposes are Representatives from the State of Chihuahua in Mexico. They will use the IKONOS products in a number of business applications including base maps and land registry updates, natural resource inventories, municipal and regional urban development and planning, population monitoring, ecological assessments, transportation mapping and change detection.     Endeavour's mapping mission completed
    The space shuttle Endeavour completed an ambitious 11-day mapping mission that measured the elevation of nearly every significant feature on the Earth’s surface at least once. The six astronaut crew has done three dimensional mapping of more than 120 million hectares of the planet’s land masses.
