MapInfo Charts Clear Course With Oracle
Oracle Corp. the largest provider of software for e-business, today announced that MapInfo Corporation, a world leader in helping organizations use location information to better understand their customers, is improving its own customer information-management efforts using a data warehouse and business intelligence solution built on Oracle®. MapInfo uses Oracle to provide a global snapshot of the company's financial and customer information, enabling managers to make decisions that have resulted in improved financial control and increased sales.
The Oracle solution reduces the time and effort required to assemble key business and sales metrics for management reporting, analysis and control. Among the statistics available from the Oracle data warehouse are purchases by industry, sales by channel and weekly billings. Using the data warehouse, sales and marketing personnel at MapInfo can pinpoint trends that lead to increased sales. For example, customers who buy certain MapInfo products are likely to buy other, complementary products. Leveraging the reports generated from the data warehouse, MapInfo can create more effective, highly targeted marketing campaigns.
``MapInfo and Oracle have been working together for more than two years to make location-based information a core part of our customers' enterprise data warehouses and give them unprecedented visibility into their markets and customers,'' said John Tobison, vice president and chief information officer at MapInfo. ``With our data warehouse and business intelligence solutions built on Oracle technology, we are bringing the same level of visibility to MapInfo's global operations.''
Based on Oracle8i(TM), the data warehouse and business intelligence solution at MapInfo provides a centralized, web-based information repository accessible from all of MapInfo's worldwide locations. The Oracle data warehouse centralizes information from four separate database instances at MapInfo, ensuring data accuracy and allowing managers to more efficiently derive business intelligence in real time. Oracle8i enables MapInfo to glean optimal performance from its data warehouse and to proactively monitor system performance to prevent potential problems. MapInfo is looking forward to taking advantage of the advanced caching capability in Oracle9i(TM) for even faster information processing, and for its very high reliability in a web environment.
``MapInfo understands the substantial business value that comes with enterprise-wide access to business intelligence, including customer information,'' said Michael Howard, vice president, Business-to-Business Integration and Data Warehouse Division at Oracle. ``Using Oracle data warehouse technologies, MapInfo is developing and strengthening customer relationships, as well as maintaining operational efficiency.''
MapInfo's internal business intelligence initiative builds on an established alliance between the two companies. MapInfo's powerful visualization software integrated with Oracle Spatial enables spatial data to be stored, accessed, and analyzed quickly and efficiently in Oracle8i. Customers are able to gain unprecedented visibility into their customers and markets, viewing information such as the proximity of store locations to customers within a given distance, or sales revenue per territory.
