Bentley Unveils MicroStation GeoGraphics iSpatial Edition
New Release Extends the MicroStation GeoGraphics SELECT Series with a Native Oracle 8i Spatial Interface. During Bentley International User Conference on 19th September 2000-Bentley Systems, Incorporated (Exton, PA) announced MicroStation GeoGraphics® iSpatial Edition, part of the MicroStation GeoGraphics SELECT Series - a continual enhancement program for MicroStation GeoGraphics users.
During Keith Bentley's keynote presentation to the more than 2500 attendees at this year's annual Bentley International User Conference, key portions of the technology demonstrations utilized data created with the MicroStation GeoGraphics iSpatial Edition. MicroStation GeoGraphics iSpatial Edition enables creation and maintenance of spatial information directly in Oracle 8i Spatial. An increasing number of organizations are utilizing Oracle to manage data across the enterprise, and Oracle 8i Spatial enables spatial indexing and storage of this data. The demonstrations during the conference showed how the MicroStation GeoGraphics iSpatial Edition becomes an extremely powerful editor of OpenGIS-compliant data stored directly in Oracle 8i Spatial.
"MicroStation GeoGraphics iSpatial Edition will play an important role in the business priorities of our users throughout the engineering, construction and operations (E/C/O) spectrum," said Keith Bentley, Chief Technology Officer of Bentley Systems, Incorporated. "In addition to creating and maintaining spatial information in Oracle 8i Spatial, MicroStation GeoGraphics iSpatial Edition users can post this data on Viecon.com, allowing them to track projects, equipment and resources based on their location." Viecon.com is Bentley's E/C/O project-hosting extranet and this new enhancement is referred to as Viecon.Spatial.
"Those familiar with the use of MicroStation GeoGraphics will have almost nothing to relearn as they move to the iSpatial Edition," said Brad Workman, Vice President, Bentley Software. "The basic behaviors of MicroStation and MicroStation GeoGraphics are preserved, even though its data is now stored and retrieved from Oracle 8i Spatial rather than directly from DGN files. In addition, MicroStation GeoGraphics applications can also take advantage of the Oracle 8i Spatial read/write capabilities provided by the MicroStation GeoGraphics iSpatial Edition."
MicroStation GeoGraphics iSpatial Edition is built using the SDODGN API, which is delivered as part of the product. Sample applets and applications can be found at Bentley's online developer support site.
