Dr. Joel Orr's "Collaboration with Extranets Seminar Series" Comes to Asia/Pacific Regions
The "Godfather of Project Extranets" Comes to Asia and the Pacific Regions to Help Companies in Building-Related Industries Use the Internet for More Efficient Operations
Following a highly successful series of seminars covering the essentials of extranet technology, which he conducted throughout the Americas, Joel Orr is poised to embark on the Asia/Pacific leg of his 60-city world extranet tour. The series of seminars is comprised of an extensive look at extranet technology, its impact on the Engineering, Construction and Operations (E/C/O) community and what steps IT decisions makers need to take to use the technology to improve their project processes.
Extranet technology is becoming an increasingly essential part of the engineering process for organisations around the world. When 64 business leaders gathered late last year at The Summit on the Future of Engineering Software in Chicago, at the top of their list of "hot items for the millennium was: "No engineering or construction project of any significance will be undertaken without an extranet."
Dr. Orr announced the Extranet Seminar Series in June, introducing his world tour plans during a presentation at the National Press Club in Washington D.C. In his remarks, he lamented that only 2 percent of organisations and individuals involved in the E/C/O of constructed assets have adopted technology that will allow them to leverage the Internet for truly efficient operations.
"There is no question that E/C/O organisations know that they need to harness the power of the Internet to improve both project and enterprise efficiency," commented Dr. Orr. "However, there is a significant and serious gap between the companies that have already started trying project extranet solutions and those that are still unsure of where to begin. This tour will provide the education and support these companies need to get started."
The seminars are designed for company decision-makers, advisors and technologists. They consist of two-hour sessions in which Dr. Orr explains: what an extranet is; how it can help companies save money and cut project duration; how you can select the right technology for their company or project; and what the first steps are to successfully getting started with a project extranet.
Known in the E/C/O industry as the "Godfather of Project Extranets," Dr. Orr is using the seminars to help companies understand the benefits they will realise from developing and using project extranets - and how to get started.
Project extranets are E/C/O-specific online networks that use the Internet to share information, generally among people in different organisations or locations. Completion of a significant constructed asset can include anywhere from dozens to hundreds of organisations and hundreds to tens of thousands of individuals. For those that design, engineer, construct, operate and own constructed assets such as buildings, plants, roads and infrastructure, a virtual project environment can save money and cut project duration significantly.
