MapInfo's Wireless Web Technology Wins Best of Show at Oracle's Innovate Derby
MapInfo Corporation announced that its wireless location-based technology has been awarded Best of Show at the First-Annual Oracle Innovate Derby. The Best of Show title is awarded to the company that demonstrates the most innovative use of Web-based technology.
The Innovate Derby featured the top 30 business-to-business and business-to-consumer companies that have affected the community with the use of innovative Web-based technology. An audience of 30,000 to 40,000 attendees, who included people from all walks of life, voted on the technology, along with a group of select judges.
MapInfo demonstrated its wireless Web-based application built on Oracle technology. The application showed the restaurants within a one-minute walking distance of the Moscone Center, where Oracle OpenWorld is being held. When a restaurant is selected, additional information is promptly displayed, such as the phone number to make a reservation as well as specific walking directions with a colored map and information on how long it will take to walk the route. Additionally, MapInfo showcased a number of its customer Web sites that illustrate the power of MapInfo' s visualization technology on an Oracle database.
"The Innovate Derby was an excellent way to showcase the multitude of cutting-edge Internet technologies that are available today," said Brian Lantz, vice president of business and sales development at MapInfo. "As an Oracle partner, we are proud to claim the Best of Show title. Since all of the participants were judged upon technical innovation, this clearly illustrates the tremendous impact that location-based wireless services will have on the future of business and personal communications."
