deciBel Planner UMTS module Announced at UMTS Congress 2000
UMTS Congress 2000 - Barcelona, Spain Northwood Technologies Inc. today announced its new UMTS module for use with the deciBel Planner® wireless network planning solution. The UMTS module offers advanced traffic forecasting and detailed network analysis, as well as modeling capabilities for numerous multimedia services. deciBel Planner.
"The UMTS module provides us with a strong 3G entry product for the European market and beyond," said Phil Wyatt, vice-president of technology at Northwood. "Our approach to traffic forecasting gives customers a huge advantage in deploying multiple services for UMTS networks."
Clutter categories (land use data) are the basis of the UMTS traffic forecasting solution. Default settings, adjustable by the RF engineer, are attributed for each clutter category (e.g. core urban, urban, industrial). The engineer determines the total capacity reserved for each service type (e.g. voice, e-mail and video conferencing), expected throughput for each base station (Node B)/sector and the relative service levels for different environments (e.g., indoor, vehicular and pedestrian).
Another core strength of the deciBel Planner UMTS module is detailed network analysis capabilities. Among 50+ outputs, the feature-rich software generates grids for Composite Coverage for UE and Service Type, Total Throughput and Required Forward Traffic Power Density. Report files are also created for Data throughput for each packet service per sector, Neighbour list and Reverse noise power for different services and hand-off levels per sector. This extensive level of analysis, in addition to modeling capabilities for numerous multimedia services, makes the UMTS module a robust planning solution for 3G networks.
