LizardTech's MrSID Supported by Intergraph's Field View

LizardTech Inc. today announced the integration of its MrSID® imaging technology into Intergraph's FRAMME Field View 3.1 software. With this addition, utilities and communications companies can view drastically reduced MrSID image files in the office or field. This integration further strengthens LizardTech's ties with Intergraph's leading AM/FM/GIS software solutions. Field View users can now use MrSID images in the field and greatly exploit the latest high-resolution imagery. The latest version of Field View brings significant new functionality to the product, including support for LizardTech's MrSID raster format, which allows users to employ continuous tone high-resolution raster files as backdrop graphics to their vector data.

LizardTech's MrSID is the standard image format for geospatial professionals today. MrSID is a wavelet-based imaging technology that allows up to a 95 percent file size reduction while maintaining geometric accuracy and providing for real-time viewing, panning and printing of massive-sized imagery, including files larger than a gigabyte. Field View, a low-cost viewing component, provides an inexpensive, easy-to-use tool for distributing AM/FM/GIS information throughout organizations. Field View offers a seamless map environment, the ability to review attribute information, user-definable locate queries, custom view settings and editing tools.

``MrSID is used extensively throughout our organization to access our high-resolution imagery,'' said Dave Davis, GIS analyst, City of Madison, Wis. ``With MrSID now supported by Field View, our field personnel can directly access MrSID aerial images, greatly increasing their effectiveness on site. For example, our Fire Department is beginning to use MrSID imagery in Field View to locate fire hydrants that are buried under snow or to quickly identify hydrants that give the highest water pressure for emergency response situations.''

``Remote use of GIS is expanding dramatically, and with breakthrough technologies like Field View and MrSID, corporations are now able to extend vital geospatial and imagery data directly to where it is needed the most -- to employees in the field,'' said John Grizz Deal, LizardTech president and CEO. ``The new MrSID functionality in Field View is the direct result from customer requests and input, and has been very well received,'' said Kevin Hitt, vice president, Intergraph Utilities. ``Intergraph is always looking to provide our customers with the latest technology tools, such as MrSID, to drastically improve the workflow and productivity for our mobile and networked GIS users.''
