SPOT Offers Low Cost/Broad License Imagery for GIS/Mapping
SPOT Image Corporation released the new SPOT USA Select product series that provides current statewide digital image maps at low cost with broad-use licensing. Prices range from $1400 to $35,000 per state depending on state size. Coverage of the entire U.S. (48 contiguous states) is available at a 55% discount over the cumulative per state cost. Licensing options range from full data sharing within state and local government agencies and schools, up to public domain Internet access. SPOT is the only commercial image provider to offer current low cost image maps with broad user-oriented licensing.
``Satellite imagery has typically not been part of the GIS solution due to high cost and limited accessibility,'' explains Gene Colabatistto, president of SPOT Image Corporation. ``That all ends with the unique price/licensing of SPOT USA Select that puts imagery on a level with other geospatial and map databases, as part of an information solution. SPOT is the only system that is capable of collecting, processing, pricing and distributing a product like this to new markets.''
One meter and other high-resolution imagery and aerial photography databases are very expensive, take years to produce, and often come with overly restrictive licensing which limits their value. SPOT's medium resolution, low cost, flexible licensing and the ability to rapidly produce and update an entire database with new imagery make it uniquely valuable. SPOT is the only system in the world that can offer long term updates, continuity and consistent quality database production. SPOT USA Select includes a complete 10-meter resolution digital statewide image map processed for GIS and desktop mapping use, created from current SPOT satellite imagery. A multitude of options are available to maximize the value of this product for the greatest number of users. These include matching SPOT multispectral coverage, colorization with Landsat 7, high-resolution insets over select areas. Clients can also use this program to pre-subscribe to future coverage at 2.5 meter or 5 meter resolution when SPOT 5 imagery becomes available in early 2002.
