Africa's Great Rift Valley is Widening
Global Positioning System (GPS) monitoring has revealed that Africa's Great Rift Valley is widening , Kenyan Researchers have said. Kenya Institute of Surveying and Mapping (KISM) Director said that preliminary data has shown that there has been some minor but widening movements over the three year period. KISM is now looking at how the valley is sinking with experts from Japan.
It is believed that the Rift Valley bisects the the continent from the Red Sea in the north is subjected to crustal movements that can affect construction of buildings and roads. According to Kenyan researchers these finings are mere geological figures which need to be verified before any conclusion is made.
