GSLV will be launched later this month
The Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle (GSLV D-1) will be launched later this month. The GSLV has been programmed to place its payload, a 1540 Kg experimental satellite GSAT-1 in a Geosynchronous Transfer orbit (GTO), over easter part of Indonesia, 17 minutes after take off. Launch of the 49 m , 401 tonne, three stage vehicle was aborted at the last moment at Sriharikota on March 28 as one of the first stage strap on motors (L-40) did not develop enough thrust.
The ISRO pinpointed that the problem in one of the L - 40 strap on was in a regulator, which hampered flow of adw\equate amounts of the fuel and oxidizer to develop the pre-set thrust levels.
The delay in announcing a new date for the launch is because of the insistence of the ISRO top-brass to find out why such a minor problem escaped notice, despite 5000 tests carried out during the pre-launch stage.
