ESRI Joins APTA to Help Improve Public Transit Systems
Redlands, California, April 19, ESRI, a leader in geographic information system software, has joined the American Public Transportation Association (APTA), headquartered in Washington, D.C., as a business member. APTA business members include private businesses that supply products and services to the transit industry.
"ESRI enjoys a growing user base in many transit agencies in the United States and around the world," says Ernie Ott, ESRI transportation industry manager. "From major inter-modal urban transit authorities to rural paratransit operators, transit professionals are using GIS technology to improve operations and increase service in their communities. Transit consultants are also turning to GIS as they seek to assist their client's plan and manage more effectively. We are pleased to join and support APTA and their many other members."
Increasingly recognized as the best tool for assessing traffic congestion, traffic safety, and air quality, GIS is also generating models to help forecast the results of transportation projects. "Among its many benefits to the public transportation industry, GIS technology will help us demonstrate to policy makers in graphic ways just how important transit is to their communities," says APTA President William W. Millar. "We welcome ESRI into the APTA fold and look forward to another banner year as transit rider ship continues to grow."
