LightSurf's Wireless Visual Communications Solutions to support QUALCOMM's BREW

SANTA CRUZ, Calif., April 22, LightSurf Technologies, Inc., the leading provider of wireless digital media infrastructure technology, has announced that it will develop software to support QUALCOMM's new Binary Runtime Environment for Wireless(TM) (BREW(TM)) platform. BREW is an applications platform for wireless devices using a variety of air interfaces including, among others, Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA), the leading standard for third-generation, high-speed wireless voice and data communications. The BREW platform will allow rapid development of a wide variety of small, transportable handset applications that users can download over carrier networks onto any BREW-enabled phone.

The BREW platform provides application developers with an open standards-based platform for wireless devices on which to develop their products. The BREW platform sits between the chip system software and the application, making the phone's functionality available to the application without requiring the developer to have the chip system source code or even a direct relationship with a handset manufacturer.

Extending the benefits of the BREW platform, the LightSurf Technology Platform (LTP) will allow all BREW-enabled handsets to provide intelligent interaction with visual communication accessories, such as clip-on cameras and built-in digital eye modules.

The LightSurf Technology Platform enables handsets operating on 2G, 2.5G and 3G networks to capture and display high-quality digital photos and wirelessly transmit them to other devices and platforms in seconds. With LightSurf's solution on BREW-enabled phones, users will be able to view and organize photos in a variety of clip-on visual communication accessories and share the photos instantly with anyone in the world.

The first company to offer a complete and ultra-thin MMS solution for CDMA, LightSurf enables wireless carriers with CDMA digital wireless technology to deliver multimedia-messaging solutions to their end consumers.
