    NASSCOM chief Dewang Mehta found dead in hotel room

    High-profile NASSCOM president Dewang Mehta was found dead in his hotel room on Thursday morning. Mehta, who was part of a delegation of information technology experts led by IT Minister Pramod Mahajan, was slated to catch the morning flight for home but was found dead by some hotel staff when they went to look for him in his room after being told that he had missed the flight.

    China would launch the first manned space mission in late 2002 according to a report in Japan's largest newspaper the Yomiuri Shimbun. According to a senior official, China had planned to launch three more unmanned test flights of the Shenzhou ("Magic Vessel") manned spacecraft before the first yuhangyuan ("astronaut") crew would go into space.

    The first vehicle in the Proton M series was successfully lifted off at 7:47 a.m. Moscow time carrying a satellite for the Russian government. The Ekran-M satellite was successfully separated from the rocket's Breeze M upper stage into geostationary orbit about 7 hours later.
