Austin, TX, February, 2001 -- The North Central Texas Council of Governments (NCTCOG) has awarded its 2001 project for Digital Orthoimagery, with options or Digital Elevation Models and Contours, to VARGIS of Texas, LLC.
VARGIS is leading a multi-participant team to create 1-foot resolution digital orthoimagery for 11 Counties, plus digital elevation models (DEMs) and 2' ontours for 5+ Counties, all in the north central portion of the state. Collection of LIDAR for the DEMs and contours began in January 2001, with the imagery collection to begin in February. Delivery of the orthophotography and contours will begin in the summer of 2001 and be complete by early spring, 2002. The VARGIS team for the NCTCOG includes Triathlon, BC, Canada and EarthData International of Maryland, LLC, Gaithersburg, MD.
In 1999, VARGIS created a commercial off-the-shelf, natural color, orthoimagery database called Eyemap for the Dallas- Ft Worth metro area, which is being used by many NCTCOG members for landbase applications. The new orthoimagery will create a consistent, updated base map for all NCTCOG members and other contributing organizations throughout the region.
VARGIS is an industry leader in managing the acquisition, quality assurance and delivery of digital orthophotography to government and commercial clients. In six years of operation, VARGIS has contracted for the production of digital orthoimages covering more than 300,000 square miles nationwide. VARGIS is currently the prime contractor on statewide orthoimagery projects in Texas and Michigan, and subcontractor on a statewide project in Tennessee. VARGIS also subcontracts and manages production of its own Eyemap(TM) brand of high-resolution digital color orthophotography in five metropolitan regions throughout the US.
