City of Milpitas to Enhance GIS

Huntsville, Ala., Feb. 22, 2001 - The city of Milpitas serves a population of approximately 70,000 residents. The city provides GIS services such as police crime analysis maps, fire incident maps, and zoning maps for city personnel. The city is planning to provide maps to the public on their Web site. These maps include a zoning map, a map of proposed city projects, and a bicycle route map.

City government of Milpitas, California has deployed the GeoMedia product suite - GeoMedia, GeoMedia Professional, and GeoMedia WebMap - to enhance their GIS initiatives. The city's GIS supports several departments including information services, engineering, transportation, planning, building, fire, and police.

Future plans includes deployment of additional Web mapping applications, such as rezoning notification for the planning department, network and traffic analysis for the transportation department, and crime analysis for the police department.

"We did not want to be concerned with the issues of translating data, changing coordinate systems, or transforming units in order to use outside data," said Alan Rich, GIS manager, city of Milpitas

Intergraph Mapping and GIS Solutions (IMGS), a division of Intergraph Corporation develops, markets, and supports core geospatial products that address a wide range of market segments.
