Wearing the glasses the topographic maps jump out at you in true 3D movie-like fashion. The visual impact gives you a deeper appreciation and understanding of the lay of the land. However, glasses are not needed with the other vivid 3D options. For example, you can see two images side-by side - one in 3D and the other as a flat topo map or view the entire map in 3D from any angle.
