DMTI Spatial releases CanMap V 4.1

Markham, ON January 15, 2001 - DMTI Spatial, a spatial solutions provider for Canadian street map data, announces a feature-rich upgrade release of its flagship product, CanMap.

CanMap V4.1 now includes transit systems in these key urban centres across Canada: Montreal, Ottawa, Toronto, Calgary, Edmonton, and Vancouver. And, supported by the availability of street names for communities as small as 1,000 people, CanMap V4.1 also includes street addressing for communities as small as 4,500 people.

CanMap V4.1 begins shipping January 15, 2001. Included in the CanMap suite of products are CanMap Streetfiles, CanMap RouteLogistics, and CanMap Major Roads & Highways.

"We are dedicated to continuously improving CanMap on a quarterly basis," said Mike Stones, VP Product Development and Services, DMTI Spatial. "The feature enhancements we've added in CanMap V4.1 are a result of our product development team and customers exchanging information and ideas on an ongoing basis.

"Street addressing is an important feature for clients in e-commerce and location-based services. And with the addition of Major Transit Systems, the CanMap product is now more detailed and comprehensive than ever before," Stones said.

GPS-ready, positionally accurate nationwide features of CanMap include:
    • street names and address ranges
    • topographic coverage for more than 75% of Canada's population (based on the 1996 census)
    • land use classifications
    • topographic features and named geographic features
    • points of interest
In addition to the enhancements and features noted above, CanMap V4.1 now has two new Point of Interest layers: Canada's top 5 car rental agencies, and border crossing customs office locations. These two new layers have been added to the current attributed Point of Interest list that includes educational institutions, healthcare facilities, and accommodation locations.

With the release of CanMap V4.1, DMTI Spatial introduces an additional maintenance option. Customers who subscribe to the company's Maintenance Program now have the option of selecting the new semi-annual data enhancements, ensuring their GIS and proprietary applications are using the most current geospatial data available. This option is in addition to the existing quarterly or annual data-update Maintenance Program.

CanMap is shipped in plug-and-play format in the world's leading GIS software formats, including ESRI, MapInfo, and Autodesk MapGuide. This powerful combination of applications allows our clients to find resources with superior accuracy. The software also provides clients with the ability to display and analyze data on a nationwide basis, and to enhance their application with realistic detail and landmark proximity.
