ESRI software selected by Rochester Gas and Electric Corporation
ESRI's software has been selected by Rochester Gas and Electric Corporation (RG&E) as the enterprise GIS in RG&E's implementation of Convergent Group's Digital Utility Business Solution, which will revolutionize the way RG&E performs business processes and serve customers. The three-year project began in September, with the completion of the first implementation phase scheduled for Q1 2001.
Convergent Group completed an assessment and strategic analysis for RG&E, which served as the foundation for an agreement to implement the Digital Utility concept to optimize energy delivery and integrate front and back office operations.
RG&E provides electric and gas energy and related services to more than one million residents and businesses in a nine-county region around the City of Rochester in Upstate New York. RG&E will use GIS to manage its utility network, which covers a 2,700-square-mile service territory.
RG&E will take advantage of this solution to automate and streamline work processes, integrate data management, provide improved customer service, and lower costs.
"Convergent Group is a leading supplier of powerful, end-to-end solutions and has been successfully serving the utility market for years," says Kevin Kirk, northeast energy account manager, ESRI. "Through our alliance, we believe customers like RG&E will have the very finest technology and service possible, with Convergent Group utilizing ESRI software as the GIS component to its overall solution."
"ESRI's latest release of ArcGIS software is a great fit for utilities looking for enterprise asset management," commented Greg Courniotes, executive vice president of sales and marketing for Convergent Group. "Based on an open, object-oriented design, the ArcGIS platform is a natural choice for the asset registry of the Digital Utility we're deploying for RG&E."
The Digital Utility encompasses Convergent Group's methodologies, business models, and consulting services, along with best-of-class solutions from its strategic business partners. The solution consists of integrated software including Advantex's wireless workforce management system, CES International's outage management software, Severn Trent Systems' work management software, and Stoner's network planning tools.
"The true power of GIS in an energy company is its use for management, analysis, and reporting of the relationships between their assets and the space they occupy," says Kirk. "ESRI's GIS will provide the foundation to an enterprisewide asset management system that RG&E requires to take their company into the 21st century."
