    School bus service to be honoured for using GIS &GPS in their fleet

    CHICAGO, Jan. 10 -- "The NHTM Millennium Project Award" is given to organizations with high standards and a commitment to technology that has a positive impact on humanity. The theme for the 2001 award is Technology and its Impact on Public Safety. This year's sponsor of NHTM is PSJournal.com, a global high-tech newsletter for the public safety industry.

    Founded in 1994, NHTM's mission is to recognize the dramatic effect high-tech products and services have on the way we live now, and how they will change the way we live in the 21st century. NHTM has a goal to promote and create awareness of high-tech education, as well as technology solutions for both home and business.

    They will be awarding Laidlaw Education Services for their vision in enhancing student transportation safety via a technological solution using GeoSpatial Technologies' GlobalTrax(TM) products. Additionally, a NHTM Citation will be awarded to the Martin County School Board and Cingular (formerly BellSouth and Southwestern Bell) for participation in this progressive project.

    The awards will be given during a press conference and demonstration on January 23 in Martin County, Florida at the Laidlaw offices located at 2845 SE Dixie Highway, Stuart, Florida 34997. GST's GlobalTrax products will be demonstrated on the Laidlaw buses at the press conference. GlobalTrax combines the latest Global Positioning System (GPS), Geographic Information System (GIS), Wireless and Internet technologies to enable a vehicle to be tracked anytime, anywhere, in real time from any computer or hand-held wireless device via the Internet.
