SiGEM received a CDN $1.65M order for its ePiNG modules from VIASAT

Ottawa, Canada, Jan. 30 - SiGEM Inc. which deals in GPS-based vehicle location tracking systems, has received a CDN$1.65 million order for its ePiNG modules from VIASAT S.p.A., owned by Fiat and Telecom Italia and located in Rome, Italy. VIASAT uses SiGEM's ePiNG technology to drive their aftermarket telematics product, which offers stolen vehicle recovery, accident detection and notification systems, and Infomobility or "information-on-the-move" to vehicle owners.

This order, which calls for 20,000 ePiNG modules to be delivered by April 2001, follows VIASAT's previous order for 10,000 ePiNG modules in the fourth quarter of 2000.

"Our telematics business has been increasing rapidly," said Pierluigi Leone, CEO of VIASAT. "This order represents a level of demand that we expect to continue throughout the coming year, and we will rely on our proven suppliers like SiGEM to help us maintain our market leadership."

Telematics is a rapidly growing worldwide industry that combines location- aware wireless communications devices with a service provider to provide safety and convenience services to drivers. Some examples of telematics applications are roadside assistance, mileage tracking, and navigation.

VIASAT is the largest provider of security, assistance, and Infomobility systems and services for vehicle telematics in Europe and the second largest in the world. The company currently provides telematics services to over 60,000 vehicle owners in Italy, and is growing at a rate of over 100% per year. VIASAT's telematics product uses SiGEM's ePiNG modules, which combine a highly accurate GPS receiver with a powerful integrated processor that runs the telematics software.
