  • NASA And NIMA Continue Joint Review Of Mars Polar Lander Search Analysis  [ 30/03/2001 ]
    NASA and the National Imagery and Mapping Agency (NIMA) today said researchers from the two agencies will continue a joint review of the initial results of NIMA's search for the missing Mars Polar Lander. This analysis is extremely challenging, and has thus far produced no definitive conclusions.

  • Strong quake rattles southwestern Japan  [ 26/03/2001 ]
    An earthquake measuring 6.4 on the Richter scale shook western Japan killing at least two people, however there were no immediate signs of widespread damage. The quake, centered about 61 kilometers (38 miles) below ground, struck at 3:28 p.m. local time (0638 GMT) near Hiroshima state, about 692 kilometers (430 miles) southwest of Tokyo.


  • India's GSLV-D1 launch likely on March 28  [ 26/03/2001 ]
    India plans to test fly a new homegrown satellite launch rocket on March 28 as part of a program to cut reliance on foreign launch vehicles. It will put to test GSLV-D1, first of the Rs 1,400-crore dream mission taken up 10 years ago by the Indian Space Research Organisation. It will also catapult India into the elite club of five nations that have crossed the geo-stationary launch milestone.
