    Benefon Oyj and Genimap Oy, both based in Finland, have announced that the world's first personal navigation phone Benefon Esc! with GPS-positioning capabilities and mobile maps is now available for test users and developers. The Benefon Esc! GSM+GPS personal navigation phone stores maps in its memory and pinpoints the user's location on the map with the help of a state-of-the art 12-channel GPS navigator.

  • The Boeing-Built `Rock' has Left Earth  [ 19/03/2001 ]
    XM-2, a Boeing 702 satellite -- designated "Rock" -- built for XM Satellite Radio, Inc. was successfully launched on board Sea Launch platform at the Equator in the Pacific Ocean. "Rock" is the first of two satellites built for XM Satellite Radio, Inc., Washington D.C., by Boeing Satellite Systems (BSS), Inc., a unit of The Boeing Company.

    Orbital Sciences Corporation has announced that the National Space Program Office (NSPO) of Taiwan, Republic of China, has awarded the company a $56 million contract for the Republic of China Satellite (ROCSAT-3)/Constellation Observing System for Meteorology, Ionosphere and Climate (COSMIC) program. Orbital's Space Systems Group will be responsible for constellation design and analysis, joint development of the spacecraft bus with NSPO

  • Russia, Australia work together in space research [ 19/03/2001 ]
    The Russian government has approved a proposal from the Russian Space Agency on carrying out space research together with the Australian company Asia Pacific Space Center. According to the resolution, the countries will work together to develop an Aurora class space cruiser for commercial satellite launches for peaceful objectives.
