Goodrich introduces new Survey Probe Technology
At the International Offshore Technology Conference, The BFGoodrich Company has unveiled a new strapdown Inertial Navigation Surveying System (INSS) probe.

The probe features innovative technology capable of locating "true north" during on the fly vertical-to-horizontal operations. This product has broad application to the petroleum, mining, utility and other industries.The Goodrich probe is capable of working to depths of 20,000 feet and at temperatures up to 125 degrees C. Its compact size, only 1.75" in diameter and 7' long, makes it one of the smallest ever brought to market.he INSS also allows customers to do their own precision survey work rather than be dependent upon a small number of companies who perform such work. Goodrich expects systems to be available at the rate of two per month beginning in the fall of 2001.

Trimble and XEMICS Sign Chipset Customer
Through a joint sales agreement Trimble and XEMICS, a Swiss fabless semiconductor company, have announced that InnoLabs Corporation will be adding GPS functionality to its personal computing tablet. InnoLabs will be purchasing the XEMICS XE1610 GPS chipset. The chipset, which is based on Trimble's FirstGPS(TM) technology,
allows high volume manufacturers of consumer products to add GPS location capability with minimal impact on device size or battery life.
The chipset from XEMICS is the smallest and lowest
power implementation of Trimble's FirstGPS technology to date. It is specifically designed for power-sensitive, wireless enabled and mobile information devices such as laptops, PDAs, digital cameras, and even wristwatches. With the XE1610 chipset, InnoLabs' products will now add GPS location capabilities to its list of innovative features. The computing tablets are used for a variety of industrial and professional applications, such as warehouse and factory management, field repair service, natural resource management, healthcare (telemedicine), on-site insurance claims and processing as well as law enforcement

Mark Safran named President and CEO of HJW GeoSpatial
HJW GeoSpatial (HJW) has named Mark S. Safran as President and Chief Executive Officer. Most recently the firm's Chief Operating Officer, Mr. Safran succeeds Axel Hoffman who stepped down from the position earlier this month. Prior to joining HJW, Mr. Safran held key positions with the California Coastal Commission, PG&E, Chevron and the US Forest Service Geometric Division. He is Past President of the Urban Regional Information Systems Association Northern California Chapter, Past Technical Program Chair of the California GIS Conference, and has spoken at numerous conferences and seminars.
