BAE SYSTEMS sells its 50% equity share in LH Systems

San Diego, BAE SYSTEMS Mission Solutions announced on Friday, April 27, the signing of an agreement to sell its 50% interest in LH Systems, to Leica Geosystems for $15M. This sale underpins the intention on the part of BAE SYSTEMS Mission Solutions and Leica Geosystems to continue a strategic relationship for their Visual Information Products that began in 1993 with an exclusive distribution agreement between BAE SYSTEMS and Leica. As part of the transaction, the parties have agreed to continue the SOCET SET development, distribution, and licensing agreement between BAE SYSTEMS and LH Systems for a minimum of 2 more years. The transaction closing is anticipated in 45 to 60 days after receipt of the necessary regulatory approvals.

First space tourist returns to Earth

Atlanta, Georgia, The world's first paying space tourist, U.S. businessman Dennis Tito, has descended back to Earth safely after six days aboard the orbiting international space station. He landed in the Kazakh steppes Sunday aboard a Soyuz spacecraft, which brought him and two Russian cosmonauts back to Earth from the International Space Station. Along with Russian cosmonauts Talgat Musabayev and Yuri Baturin, Tito landed at 0542 GMT in a "hard" landing. The return trip by the 60-year-old multimillionaire who reportedly paid the Russian space agency $20 million was the final part of a fantastic space voyage.

Vicinity Corporation Launches Wireless Business Finder

Vicinity Corporation services have expanded its Business Finder product suite with the launch of Wireless Business Finder(SM). The Wireless Business Finder enables national brands to give their customers the ability to search for the nearest location of their store, product or service from virtually any Internet-enabled wireless device, including PDAs, phones, and pagers. The new wireless service also incorporates Vicinity's LineDrive route maps that provide a simplified turn-by-turn "blueprint" for driving directions.

Taiwan to Launch Six Micro Weather Satellites

Taiwan's National Science Council (NSC) and the US National Science Foundation signed an agreement to produce and launch six micro satellites for weather forecasting. Data gathered by the six micro satellites would be relayed to the U.S. for analysis before it is sent back to Taiwan. Taiwan will play a role in the manufacturing of the six micro satellites with five indigenous companies likely to be awarded the contracts to provide major components. The U.S will launch the six satellites.

Internet based Map Service for Dubai

Spatial Data Integrators (SDI) has launched the location map service for Dubai as a new interactive map site with Geo Reference Locator (GRL), which shows the locations of registered companies, shops, events and other establishments. Dubai is the first city in the Middle East to have a location map service that allows users to browse on a live Internet map. The site provides map navigation tools to zoom-in, zoom-out, pan, search for locations and obtain contact details of registered establishments. SDI has worked for the past two years to achieve this and uses the latest Internet Map Server (IMS) technology, that produces the map for a required area in real-time. The interactive map sites are www.dubailocator.com, www.uaelocator.com and http://sdi.aeGRL.com.
Mapciti First To Offer High-Resolution Printing

Syncline, Inc., has announced the addition of high-resolution printing capabilities, as well as other enhancements, to MapCiti(TM), the company's fully automated Web-based mapping service for cities, towns, and government agencies. MapCiti(TM) is the first hosted mapping service to offer high-resolution printing capabilities on the Web, enabling users to see the detailed information typically contained in municipal maps. Additions include hundreds of colors and an expanded array of shapes, lines, and symbols.

Russians join with Australians to develop Soyuz derivative - Avrora

Russia recently approved co-development of Avrora (Aurora), a new launch vehicle, to be developed and marketed by Asia Pacific Space Centre (ASPC). The Avrora launch vehicle is a Russian designed and manufactured rocket capable of delivering satellites to both low earth and geo-synchronous transfer orbits. APSC plans to use a new spaceport being developed on Christmas Island, an Australian territory located in the northeast India Ocean. The Avrora flight tests will be launched from Baikonur Cosmodrome.

StudyWorks 'Global Warming Exploration'- the Best Education Series on the Web

StudyWorks Online has been awarded the "StudyWeb Academic Excellence Award" by Lightspan's StudyWeb, a leading educational research and resource organization as an example of exceptional online educational content for this interactive environmental education series. The "Exploration of Global Warming" lesson is an eight-part series that brings together interactive tools and educational content to help visitors discover the science behind global warming. This exploration, which can be used in the classroom or at home, includes some exceptional features such as "Ask a Global Warming Expert," staffed by the Pew Center for Climate Change. The content allows the students to explore the scientific research that examines global warming and understand how climate change affects many ecological systems and weather. Info Tech signs contract with Triathlon

INFOTECH Enterprises Ltd has signed a contract with Triathlon Limited of Canada to provide a wide range of photogrammetry services. The contract worth Rs 35 crore will enable Info Tech to offer photogrammetry services to the latter over a three-year period. The company would provide a range of services that include aerotriangulation, stereo data compiolation, ortho photo generation, digital terrain model collection, aerial map editing and finishing. A release issued today adds that Info Tech topped out a 22 suppliers worldwide and going through the competitive five-stage screening process of Triathlon.
