NTT DoCoMo Begins Position-Info Service for Companies, Providers
NTT DoCoMo Inc. began a position-information service called DoCoMo Location Platform (DLP) using a special terminal.
Its targets are application service providers (ASPs) and corporate customers using the position-information for their services or businesses.
The DLP service includes two functions: (1) position-information service and (2) ASP support.
The position-information service (1) locates a position using global positioning system (GPS) satellites. Users themselves can search their positions or information around them, and can convey their location information to third parties. Additionally, the service can regularly collect position-information transmitted by users and confirm their travel routes. This is a function by which third parties can confirm the locations of users.
ASP support in (2) is an additional service that NTT DoCoMo provides on behalf of ASPs or other companies. This includes a function to control users of position-information by groups or a function of push-type information distribution in a specific area through the collaboration of position-information and e-mails.
Two types of fee plans, "DLP Standard Plan" and "DLP Light Plan," are available.
