ERDAS Releases Stereo Analyst V1.2

ERDAS Inc. has announced the release of Stereo Analyst® V1.2, with added sensor support for IKONOS, SPOT and IRS-1C stereo imagery. Stereo Analyst V1.2 is designed to function as a stand-alone product or to easily integrate with ERDAS IMAGINE V 8.5 and ESRI GIS products such as ArcView 3.2. Using accurate geographic imagery, Stereo Analyst V 1.2 transforms 2D GIS into real-world dimensions with map-accurate 3D information. Stereo Analyst updates the GIS by superimposing existing 2D vector layers onto a Digital Stereo Model (DSM), and then allows the user to edit and reshape them to their accurate, true, real-world positions. During the collection of GIS data, the spatial and non-spatial attribute information associated with a GIS layer can be edited, and the attribute tables can be displayed with the DSM. Automated attribution techniques simultaneously populate the GIS during the collection of 3D data. Stereo Analyst V1.2 directly outputs ESRI 3D Shapefiles for immediate use in ERDAS IMAGINE and ESRI GIS products.

eCognition 2.0 to be released at ACRS 2001

Definiens Imaging will officially introduce the new eCognition 2.0 release at the Asian Conference on Remote Sensing 2001 in Singapore, 5-9 November 2001. The new release - eCognition 2.0 - is even closer linked to the GIS world as that it is able to directly read and write vector information, manage raster data of different extend and resolution and handle geocoded information perfectly. The performance of time-consuming functions has been further enhanced. Especially some functions in the interactive display now take only few seconds - even working in near real time. Users are now able to create new object features out of any combination of existing object parameters. Additionally, new shape features come along with the internal treatment of vector structures. A pre-release of eCognition 2.0 was shipped to numerous international users for beta-test.

First Internet maps showcased on new poster from Peacock Maps

A new wall poster reproducing nine historic "first maps" of the Internet was published today by Peacock Maps, Inc., a Washington D.C. area company. "It's a unique poster" said Martin Dodge, Peacock's Director of Research, "because it brings together some of the most important original and often hand drawn diagrams and maps made by the Internet's inventors from 1964 to 1988." The images shown on the poster were also selected for their artistic value, Dodge said. "We wanted to tell the story of the Internet's early years in maps, but in a way that would appeal to people new to the Internet as well as to tech-savvy networking engineers." The maps and diagrams on Peacock's new poster have historical significance too, explained Dodge. "They chart the layout of several pioneering packet data networks that no longer exist and document the vision of the Internet's founders."

Seoul and Tokyo turn to e-trade
SEOUL - South Korea and Japan have agreed to adopt a country-to-country processing system for bilateral trade through an electronic data interchange (EDI) method, the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Energy has said.
At a policy consultation held on Tuesday on Cheju Island to promote e-commerce, government officials from the two countries entered into the world's first such agreement. Under the agreement, Seoul and Tokyo will apply bilateral auto part trade to the system by next February. With a view to linking e-marketplaces for machinery and electronics products in the two countries, both sides also agreed to proceed with the necessary procedures, including the installation of databases.
A ministry official said that the agreement is part of the two countries' efforts to promote "success stories" of e-commerce in the Asian region. The officials at the meeting shared the opinion that it is in the interests of all countries involved to establish an international order for e-commerce, while agreeing to discuss an option to cross-authorize certificates of the two nations as a solution to expand exchanges of information technology exports.
