MapInfo Introduces Daytime PSYTE

MapInfo Corporation has announced Daytime PSYTE(TM), a neighbourhood classification system that enables companies to identify, understand and target customers in specific areas during daylight hours based on buying patterns, demographics and consumer behaviour information. Daytime PSYTE data allows businesses to fine-tune marketing activities, product offerings and site locations to capitalize on the different daytime and nighttime populations of an area. Daytime PSYTE data can be used to determine market potential for products and services based on the location of consumers during the day as opposed to residential or evening population. It provides companies with an understanding of the density of consumers in a region during the day, as well as lifestyle and buying habits. The file includes information on the stay-at-home population and the working population in an area during the day. For each group, the database includes the count of population according to the 65 demographic groups that are included in MapInfo's PSYTE Neighbourhood Segmentation System. Daytime PSYTE will be available in September 2001 and includes the following geographies: Block group, Census Tract, Minor Civil Division, County, State, DMA, MSA and ZIP Codes. The Daytime PSYTE data set is a TargetPro add-on database.

Universal Map celebrates its silver anniversary

Universal Map Enterprises, Inc. celebrates its silver anniversary this month, marking 25 years as both publisher and distributor of geographic information. The company began in 1976 during the oil embargo, when gas stations stopped giving away free maps. Bob Bond, his 13-year-old son Greg, and another independent distributor began a map vending machine business. They first needed a Lansing, Michigan map, and since none were to be found, they published their own. Today, Universal Map has grown into one of the largest map publishers and distributors in the entire United States. Over the years, it has developed more local city maps than any other company. In addition, it is one of the primary sources for wall maps today. These specialized lines are only part of the full complement of maps and atlases that are available at major convenience, book and discount stores throughout America. New to the company this year is The National Survey Division. Begun in 1912, The National Survey has produced maps of many states and countries for government agencies, private industries and organizations. This includes The Vermont Yearbook, one of the oldest books in continuous publication, in press every year since 1794, with the exception of the war year of 1944.
