Microcell Connexions Inc., a subsidiary of Microcell Telecommunications Inc., and PowerLOC Technologies Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Paradigm Advanced Technologies has announced an agreement whereby PowerLOC will deploy its L-Biz(R) GPS wireless satellite position and tracking solutions in Canada using Microcell Connexions' Global System for Mobile communications (GSM) network. NASA conducts archaeology from space

JACKSON, Mississippi: The Lewis and Clark expedition was a two-year journey into a new frontier that helped put the West on the map. Now NASA is trying to do the same for the historic trek.

Scientists are using high-resolution satellite images to help pinpoint and map possible camp sites along the trail of the expedition, which is approaching its 200th anniversary.

NASA has conducted such space archaeology in the past, locating roads built by Pueblo Indians in New Mexico and Arizona more than 1,000 years ago.

NASA's Stennis Space Center on Mississippi's Gulf Coast is working with Karsmizki and the center on the project, which will continue until at least 2004, when the nation marks the journey's bicentennial.

STPI-Stanford Univ study on slowdown

CHENNAI, Sept. 20- STANFORD University and Software Technology Parks India (STPI) have jointly undertaken a study to analyse the impact of the IT downturn on Indian software companies.

Ms S. Rajalakshmi, Director, STPI, Chennai, told newspersons on Thursday that the nation-wide study was being undertaken across the 6,000 STPI units, and was expected to be completed by October-end.

The study is aimed at understanding the performance of software companies in the last few months, following a recession in the IT sector.

A questionnaire was being sent to all these units to collect data, she said. ``The recession in the industry is a major concern for us.''

Despite the recession, small software companies are still coming up. However, a lot of MoUs signed between software companies a few months ago were yet to materialise, she added.

Meanwhile, STPI Chennai, in association with Aithent Technologies, will organise a half-a-day seminar for IT professionals titled `Bulletproof your future' on September 22 at Tidel Park.

The seminar would have representatives from the IT industry and academicians answering queries from professionals on the current recession in the industry and how to deal with it, Mr B Ramakrishnan, Executive Vice-President, Aithent Technologies, said.
