- Major Storms in Mississippi, US

Strong storms in northern Mississippi has killed 7 people and damaged numerous buildings in Arkansas and Mississippi. The storm cut a path nearly 24 miles long and between 100 yards and 3/4-mile wide.

- A project on China Historical Geographic Information
System (CHGIS)

representation of selected historical units as digital maps. The project intends
to make the multi-lingual base GIS available to the scholarly community at no

- National Atlas Receives Vice President's Hammer Award

- World's first degree course on "Satallite Positioning
Technology" by University of Nottingham, UK.

University of Nottingham is offering degree course dedicated to
Satellite Positioning Technology from the next academic year. Students embarking
on the course, which starts in the University's Institute of Engineering
Surveying and Space Geodesy (IESSG), will get the chance to learn in depth about
the science and practical uses of satellite positioning systems.
