Business and government to benefit from address solution

18 September 2002
Address layer added as Ordnance Survey enhances OS MasterMap
Ordnance Survey takes Britain's most detailed digital map data to another level with the release of an interactive address layer in OS MasterMap, its database and online service.

The Address layer involves the complete migration of Ordnance Survey's ADDRESS-POINT product into OS MasterMap. Each one of around 26 million postal addresses is now referenced with a unique identifier, making them fully consistent with data on other layers, including topography and a forthcoming integrated transport network. The Address layer will evolve into a wider property database through the Acacia Programme, a collaborative project with other major holders of address and property information. The Address layer which was unveiled at this week's GeoSolutions 2002 exposition offers an ideal way to exchange and integrate address geography with different types of data. Its pinpoint accuracy and intelligence can help streamline the gathering and analysis of highly-detailed statistics. Businesses will be able to use the new layer to plan and locate new outlets, improve their logistics and distribution, and conduct targeted marketing and sales activities. A whole range of public services will also be boosted.
