Daniel Morissette receives Sol Katz Award

Vancouver, Canada: During the closing plenary of the FOSS4G 2009 conference, Daniel Morissette was awarded the Sol Katz Award for Geospatial Free and Open Source Software (GFOSS) for 2009.

Daniel is a major contributor and Project Steering Committee member of the MapServer project and is often referred to as mother of MapServer. He is also a major contributor, and PSC member of the GDAL/OGR project, and author of the MITAB, and AVCE00 data access libraries. Co-founder of the MapTool org open source hosting site and the DM Solutions Group and MapGears open source service companies.

The Sol Katz Award for Geospatial Free and Open Source Software is awarded annually by OSGeo to individuals who have demonstrated leadership in the GFOSS community.
