GeoDecisions Celebrates GIS Day with Educational Events

24 November 2008
(Nov. 20, 2008/Harrisburg, Pa.) GeoDecisions, an award-winning leader in the information technology industry that specializes in geospatial solutions, celebrated the annual geographic information system (GIS) Day on Nov. 19, 2008, with a series of presentations and events throughout the country.

GIS Day is a global, grassroots event held during the third week of November aimed at providing a better understanding of GIS in our communities, schools, and organizations. Many employees throughout GeoDecisions captured the essence of the day by delivering educational lectures at colleges and universities that featured real-world examples of GIS and its extensive applications and benefits in our world.

The nationwide educational outreach efforts included interactive workshops and presentations at Lock Haven University, Central Pennsylvania College, University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, Millersville University, Temple University, Rowan University, and others.

Additionally, GeoDecisions partnered with students at The Harrisburg University of Science and Technology to build an interactive Web site that displayed GIS-based maps of the election results in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. The site debuted during the American Council of Engineering Companies of Pennsylvania’s monthly Government Affairs breakfast meeting on Nov. 19, 2008. The site was designed under the direction of Steve Korzekwa, GeoDecisions’ director of advanced technology and a corporate faculty member at The Harrisburg University of Science and Technology.

“GeoDecisions is once again pleased to be part of the global effort to help build an understanding of GIS,” said Robert M. Scaer, P.E., president of GeoDecisions. “We hope our efforts help students and others to learn about opportunities in the field of geospatial technology and how this technology impacts our daily lives.”
