It will give them an opportunity to find out how future cities could be made liveable. Most of cities in our country have been planned haphazardly. So, India has the opportunity to build new cities of 21st century to suit their changing needs. In the past, there was no concept of green city. But now, we need to concentrate on saving energy, building sustainable cities, new kind of transportation, recycling and reusing waste material and water, new kind of electric transmission, new kind of sanitation, new kind of housing material and so on. So, our new cities would be a benchmark for the 21st century.”
Kapil Sibal, who represents Chandni Chowk constituency in the Indian Parliament, further said, “Let the youngsters initiate a dialogue regarding the problems of the cities and society with teachers and parents. It will give an opportunity to parents to see the prevailing problems of the society with the eyes of their own children. This Chandni Chowk project may be a good model for them as well.”
Earlier, Bhupinder Singh, SVP, Bentley Systems said, “Bentley Systems is the interface between people and planet which is directly linked with quality of our life. To develop a model for the redevelopment of 350-year-old city was a complex challenge.” He then quoted famous American author and humorist Mark Twain, “a man with a new idea is a crank until the idea succeeds.”
The competition has addressed topics like Commonwealth games, Commonwealth games village, and redevelopment of New Delhi railway station.
