Thales relies on LuciadMap to build SASS-C graphical user interface

12 June 2009
Leuven, June 11, 2009 - Luciad, software provider for high performance visualisation of situational awareness applications in aviation and defense, has been selected by EUROCONTROL and Thales Security Solutions & Services to provide the software components for the graphical user interface prototype of the next-generation SASS-C system. SASS-C (Surveillance Analysis Support System for air traffic control Centre) is a performance assessment system of surveillance infrastructures.

SASS-C provides standardised methods and tools for the analysis and evaluation of trackers and sensors. The system has been commonly developed for the EUROCONTROL member states and is widely distributed to civil and military Air Navigation Service Providers, R&D organizations and industrial partners.

The latest version of the SASS-C (V7) system replaces the old monolithic structure of the system by a series of interoperable functional software suites: MAS (Multi-Source Acquisition Suite), TRES (Trajectory Reconstruction and Evaluation Suite), SMART (Simulator for Multi-radar Analysis from Realistic Traffic) and SCAS/CAPT (Surveillance Coverage Analysis Suite/Coverage Analysis and Planning Tool). These suites are interoperable in terms of functionality and data formats and use a multi-purpose common repository for data sharing integration and harmonization.

EUROCONTROL together with its industrial partner Thales Security Solutions & Services selected LuciadMap to build the visualization component that comprises the sharing and harmonization of the system’s graphical user interfaces.

The LuciadMap-based ergonomic user interface is set to enable SASS-C users to handle and visualize data coming from multiple dynamic surveillance systems. LuciadMap delivers the core geometries and attributes for displaying AIS (Aeronautical Information Services) data in the background of geographical displays such as for instance coast lines, national borders, airports, runways and NAVAIDS.
