Evan Hineman Presented with 2008 USGIF Lifetime Achievement Award

25 November 2008
Nashville, Tenn., Nov. 20, 2008 – The United States Geospatial Intelligence Foundation (USGIF) announced Mr. Evan Hineman as the recipient of the USGIF Lifetime Achievement Award.

Mr. Hineman, a private consultant focusing on matters of the intelligence community, was recognized during the GEOINT Symposium’s 5-Year Anniversary Closing Celebration for his lifelong dedication to the geospatial intelligence tradecraft. The reception was held at the conclusion of the GEOINT 2008 Symposium, which took place Oct. 27-30 in Nashville, Tenn.

“I thank the Foundation for this award and its work, said Hineman. “I have enjoyed all of my days in the intelligence community, and it is a joy to work in this business and serve this great nation that we are all a part of and all benefit from the freedoms that many in the world don’t enjoy. To be a little part of something that makes this all possible makes you feel really good.”

Mr. Hineman has a history of leadership roles serving in both private industry and governmental positions that surround the GEOINT community. He was instrumental in the restructuring of the National Reconnaissance Office from disparate programs into a unified
organization when he served on the DCI Task Force at the NRO at the request of DCI Robert Gates. Mr. Hineman served on the National Imagery Agency task force which established the foundation for what eventually became NIMA. He also served as a commissioner on the
Independent Commission on the National Imagery and Mapping Agency to assess the progress of that agency's stand-up.

From the inception of GEOINT as a discipline and the creation of a functional manager for the community, Mr. Hineman has been in leadership positions helping to establish and support the community. On the occasion of the CIA's fiftieth anniversary, Mr. Hineman was awarded one of 50 trailblazer awards for his years of service to the agency. He holds the CIA's Distinguished Intelligence Medal, the NRO's Distinguished Service Medal and two National Intelligence Distinguished Service Medals and has served on various advisory boards for the government.

“On behalf of USGIF, our members and our board of directors, I congratulate Mr. Hineman on his vast achievements and contributions to the tradecraft and the community,” said K. Stuart Shea, USGIF chairman and CEO. “Presenting Evan with this award gives me great honor as he is a true patriot whose commitment to the security of our nation has made great impacts and significant improvements.”
