Abstract
The Royal Jordanian Geographic Center was approached by Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority (ASEZA) to deliver 3D GIS vector data for Aqaba City.
The Project consist of providing GIS vector data for the superficies of 300 sq km using 3D Stereo Models, GIS, and Survey techniques.
The project area was divided into two sub areas:
- 33 sq km GIS data extracted from 1/5000 stereo models
- 280 sq km GIS data extracted from 1/20000 stereo models
Aerial Photography and Ortho Photo were available from year 2000
Quick Bird satellite images year 2004 were acquired for Updates and double check
Project Phases:
Building a data model for GIS data.
Feature extraction using 3D stereo models.
Converting CAD data into GIS data.
Checking GIS data with high resolution ortho photo
Collecting attribute data from field
Updating data using high resolution satellite images
Using GPS and Total Station to Update GIS data
Integration and processing of GIS data into Datasets and Feature classes
Representation of data in 3D
Conclusion:
The Royal Jordanian Geographic Center (RJGC) and Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority (ASEZA) now posses a very rich, detailed, up to date and accurate Geo-Database for AZESA area available as an infrastructure for decision makers, planners and project managers.
