Geospatial Information & Technology Association (GITA) is an international body,
which mission is to provide excellence in education and information exchange on
the use and benefits of geospatial information and technology in
telecommunications, infrastructure, and utility applications worldwide.
A group from Public Service Company of Colorado established it in late 1960s
. In 1978 the first "Keystone Conference" was launched. In 1982, a
formal not-for-profit organization was chartered to serve this growing industry and
the association was named AM/FM International. In 1998, AM/FM International
changed its name to the Geospatial Information & Technology Association.
GITA’s “GIS for Oil & Gas Conference” is the only one of its kind, devoted exclusively to applications and technologies for upstream/downstream oil and gas industries including, Exploration and Production, Gathering, Land/Lease, Pipeline and Retail, Refining, and Marketing. It is held each September in Houston, Texas, the center of the oil and gas pipeline industry in the USA. The 1998 conference was the first held under GITA’s exclusive management.
