Conference Proceedings: Strategy Report of CEOS

Draft Resolution for Consideration By 14^th CEOS Plenary

Noting the Report prepared by the ad-hoc Working Group on EO Education and Training and its role in providing an interface between the space agency and Associate agency activities in EO Education and Training with the various EO Educational institutions;

Recognising that EO Education and Training is very critical to further the technology and applications of EO and that the outreach of ever-improving EO technology, products, services and applications to users all over the world would be maximized through a strong programme for EO Education and Training;

Also Recognising that the demand for Education and Training in this field is quite high and that many nations are yet to develop a critical mass of experts to utilize EO technology for benefit to Society;

Recognising the need for CEOS to further translate the recommendations into a Strategy and Action Plan - specially considering the potential within CEOS agencies, through its Members/Associates and Working Groups, for supporting this important activity.

The 14^th CEOS Plenary:

Endorses the Report submitted by WGEdu and commends the excellent role played by its Members and the support provided by the CEOS Members/Associates, as well as various EO Educational institutions in preparing this report.

Recognises the need for continuation of the over-arching framework provided by WGEdu across Members, Associates and EO educational institutions and the need to translate the CEOS Strategy for EO Education and Training into definitive goals and an Action Plan.

Extends the ad-hoc WGEdu for one more year and tasks it to prepare and report on the CEOS Action Plan for EO Education and Training at the 15^th Plenary.

Requests those CEOS Members/Associates that have not nominated WGEdu Contact Points to do so and for all CEOS Members/Associates to support this activity through 2001.

Endorses ISRO's lead for this activity and also for a Vice-Chair to be identified by the WGEdu, based on consultations/nominations within the Working Groups and the Chair/Secretariat.
