In today’s competitive telecommunications market, critical business drivers such as improving quality of service, providing new services faster, and reducing costs are even more urgent for a start-up in the hyper-competitive and rapidly changing mobile telecommunications market in a rapidly developing country like Brazil. In this presentation we will report how a large Brazilian telecommunications firm was able to achieve these business objectives, providing fast and reliable coverage information thus increasing customers’ satisfaction and company reliability, by integrating engineering operations and provisioning, two areas that are not well integrated in most telecommunications firms, based on a spatially-enabled RDBMS. Additionally, the integration architecture was a critical factor not only in allowing the firm to improve service and reduce costs, but also in centralizing all of the firm’s critical data in a single, centralized spatially-enabled data repository accessible to everyone in the organization over the intranet. This paper focuses on how integrating engineering and operations improved workflow, reduced costs and achieved 100% ROI over the period of the project..
