In recent past, the concept of Pavement Management System (PMS) has become an active process at project level and network both in developed as well as developing countries. PMS has become increasingly important tool in the highway community for planning, construction, implementation, maintenance and rehabilitation within available resources. PMS continues to expand and is considered for use at project level and network by the Government / Road Development Agencies to construct and maintain highway infrastructure at varying levels of serviceability. This is one of the best analytical tools that will assist decision makers in funding optimum strategies for construction and maintenance of pavements in a serviceable condition over a given period of time.
In view of the budgetary constraints and lack of prioritizing of road for maintenance based on scientific approach for improving, a need was felt to develop Operational Pavement Management System (OPMS). In this paper, an attempt has been made to develop Operational Pavement Management System for NH – 8 from Km 60 to Km 90 and further it has been integrated with GIS.
