Using innovative technologies in the capture, processing and deployment of imagery - Digital Mapping Camera unites Photogrammetry & Remote Sensing

Advances in the available technology for aerial image capture present great opportunities. It also presents a number of challenges in efficiently using and distributing the acquired image data.
New Digital Mapping Cameras (DMC) are capable of capturing up to 1,800 frames in a single sortie. The DMC’s can simultaneously capture 4 bands and as 16-bit data, enabling clients to have unsurpassed colour and infrared imagery over their target area.
The size of the data from just a single flight can amount to over 5 TB of high quality radiometric, and georeferenced data. This imagery data is stored on disks on the aircraft, and therefore available within very short timeframes. Managing, distributing and using this effectively are a huge challenge! A workflow process and methodologies needs to be developed to ensure that the timely delivery of current image data can be delivered to those that need it to make decisions.
