As GIS software supports advanced database integration it is increasingly attracting the attention of enterprise solutions developers. One of the main challenges facing enterprise systems architects is aligning enterprise solution strategies with corporate/business strategies.
By embracing geospatial technologies, enterprise systems architects have to address the following geospatial technology centric strategy alignment challenges: · Justification. Whilst GIS technology’s potential for improving operational efficiencies through cosigning paper maps to the dustbin is easy to demonstrate, justifying extra investment (which can be substantial) in integrating GIS to enterprise solutions can be hard sell to top management. · Systems Boundaries. Though GIS offers immense collaboration possibilities, top management needs to visualize the enterprise systems boundaries in order to, inter alia, manage risks and benefits. · Integration.. Tools are needed to clearly communicate to management the efficiencies to be expected if this level of integration is achieved. · Prioritization. Enterprise integration options define several execution alternatives that can produce varying returns and risks depending on their sequencing. Clarity is required in choosing the most efficient option, communicating the chosen options, and managing the execution cycle.
MGE Strategy Alignment Framework provides a structured roadmap to assist enterprise architects and top management address these challenges.
NOTE : Patent Documentation in progress. MGE SAF has been accepted as an MPhil research project at the National University of Science and Technology (NUST)
