ABSTRACT
The utility networks such as Electric, Water and Telecom represents substantial financial investments and our modern society is completely dependent on it. As result, these facilities have come under great scrutiny and there is increased need to understand system capacity to meet the demand and supply. The authorities of these facilities bear the responsibility to provide systems in order to meet both state / county regulations and federal mandates. This has led to a greater demand for more accurate and efficient field data. For this the implementing agencies increasingly rely on various crews to collect specific system data and venture to create seamless digital database. This can be best achieved by advanced mapping and Geographical Information System. Hence an attempt is made here to describe modern mapping solutions and GIS network modeling.
The system presented here is entirely GIS driven relying on user defined queries for spatial representation of the data and automated public grievances modules. The overall system dynamics have shifted from manual call taking to address public grievance and using paper entry forms to utilizing a central GIS network for field activities. The details of automated call taking and dispatching crew to attend public / customer grievance in short period of time is also presented.
