How the City of Sarajevo Automated Infrastructure Mapping

For over 40 years the City of Sarajevo has maintained paper maps showing the location of all public infrastructure within city limits including water, wastewater, electric, telecommunications, heating and other networks. To respond rapidly to infrastructure location requests and reduce costs by increasing the productivity of the staff, the city decided to automate this process. The most critical requirements were that the digital maps had to maintain existing standards for precision and graphic symbolization and support the existing business workflow for construction permits. We will demonstrate Sarajevo’s automated infrastructure management system and report how the system was developed using commercial off-the-shelf-software (COTS) and industry standard development tools.
