The geological mapping project at 1:100.000 Scale in Yemen is very important for the country because of:

1. The large area of Yemen which is Estimated About 550.000 Km2 which is still for some parts of the land is not covered yet in any sort of Geological maps.
2. Provide the data for foreign and National inventors.

The 1:100.000 Scale Map, which took 230 sheets, That consumed along time to produces by the old methods, so it was necessary to implement the usage of modern technical methods of Remote Sensing by using a computer network which includes ERDAS and GIS software.

The Yemeni Geological Survey and mineral Resources Board (GSMRB), requests the assistance and Expertise of the Federal Institute for Geosciences and Natural Resources (BGR) via the protocol of cooperation between Republic of Yemen and Germany.
The
The project began in August 2000. The Geological and thematic maps are completely depends on the Remote Sensing technic from the first interpretation of Satellite images (identifying the different rock units based on colors).

The project had prepared until Now 13 Geological maps, and 12 thematic maps for Sana’a basin.
