ABSTRACT
Remote Sensing and Geographic Information System (G.I.S.) can be used as a helpful tool to assess and to evaluate land quality and degradation especially in developing countries, such as Iranian Deserts. The human and climatic associated with aridity conditions and the change of land use/land cover that cause accelerating erosion and land degradation. So, these factors lead decreasing and to reducing yield production. Therefore, it is necessary and critical to detect the occurrence of land degradation, while it is assessed the severity of land at any occasions. Soil degrading and erosion can be severe problems during land cultivation .In arid environments, soil quality is comparatively vulnerable and human activities impact on it. The factors accelerating land degradation can be divided into unfavorable natural conditions namely climate, lithology, geomorphology, and human factors, such as the rate of population increase, urbanization, overuse of rangelands and cultivated lands and industrial pollution. In general, the term land degradation is caused by a number of processes, which cause lowering of soil capability to produce good valuable product. Due to powerful capability of remote sensing and GIS for producing maps we may conclude that integration of these capabilities can greatly improve the rate of map production and accuracy assessment.
