Abstract
Gas is the important energy source in IRAN. Gas distribution network (GDN) is designed and expanded to provide this energy for all the consumers throughout the country. Designing a GDN is performed base on several factors and standards to achieve a cost-effect and reliability scenario. It seems there are many conflicts and deficiencies in design methodology by reason of producing and using geospatial data, various existing phases during design process, need to different analyses and decision making and design on paper- base maps. So it dose not have a sufficient effectiveness. GIS as a information technology can solve many of these deficiencies and it offers sophisticated data management and spatial capabilities that can greatly improve facilitate network modeling applications.

In this paper we introduce every phase of network design process, and explain how OpenGIS can improve each phase and how it is can be replaced as core of spatial decision support system to be a integrated optimal solution.
