The Status of GIS and NSDI in Sudan Dr. Amna Ahmed hamid National Geo-Information Committee, Sudan Email: amnahamid2000@yahoo.com Sudan with its diversified natural resources and climate ranging from desert in the north to equatorial in the south is the largest country in Africa . In such a vast country it is advantageous to use space technology for sustainable development of natural resources, monitoring of environmental changes and management of disasters. In this respect Sudan Focus on human and institutional capacity development in the area of remote sensing geographic information system and global positioning system. Having more than 45 governmental institutes and private sector working in the field of geoinformation, and realizing the fact of space technology and geoinformations as an economics resources, Sudan government established, recently, a geo information committee to pave the road for Sudan National Spatial Data Infrastructure (NSDI) The paper reflects, Sudan programs in space technology, examples of national programs that utilized space technology, problems related to (NSDI) and strategy for developing a coordinated and integrated approach among institutes involved in space technology utilization.
