Third Generation Plans Program in Libya

Abstract
The period 2000-2025 is known as third generation development program, due to the existence of two previous generation of spatial development plans.
The first targeted was the period from 1076 to 1988, and the second one covered the period 1980-2000.
Striving to attain the great al-fatah revolution goals including the development of the country, re-affirming the liberty of its citizens and the ownership of its resources, we hereby processed to enter a new planning period covering the period 2000-2025 called the third generation development program.
The program represents the interaction between the vision for targeted settlement planning, the out come of UPA experience, the support provided by UN-HUMAN settlement program (UN-HABITAT) and the participation of many specialists during the preparatory phase.
The third generation planning program encompasses a comprehensive effort to improve the overall quality of physical planning in Libya. The ongoing preparation of new plans and the updating of exist ones will be supported by up-to-date methodology and technology.
This paper provides a brief overview of the 3rd generation program and the two previous generations, and discusses a number of important issues related to the subject.
